How Yogadarshini has redefined Yoga in my life

I’ve been a part of Yogadarshini, a renowned Yoga institute that my friend, Aruna VN, started for almost a year. When I approached my Acharya, Aruna, a year ago, I felt alienated from my body after giving birth to my first child. I had knee pain, and a simple squat felt like an ordeal. Moreover, I feared pursuing yoga again after my previous teacher resorted to forceful methods to get the Asanas right. However, Aruna’s YOUGA  helped me take control of my body again, making me fall in love with yoga.

Hence, I was enthusiastic to participate in all the workshops conducted by Yogadarshini, even though I felt I would not be able to do justice to some of them. Aruna took immense care to make these interesting, and I learned something new every time. I eagerly waited all day for the class to start. After each session, I felt my body and mind become strong and energized.

But the workshop that touched my aatma with my body and mind was the Navaratri workshop. This was a series of ten 30-minute daily sessions with a unique structure. In each class, we focused on one asana and did variations of it. After this, we held the asana for a longer time than we did during regular classes. Chanting the beeja mantras that strengthen a specific chakra helped us concentrate and hold the position with devotion without feeling exhausted.

After every Navaratri session, I felt a connection with my body, mind, and aatma like never before. I’m at a loss for words to describe the ecstasy I felt after each class. When Aruna explained the asana, the first thought that came to my mind was, “I can’t do this.” But with the help of our wonderful Acharya’s words of continuous encouragement, the power of the beeja mantras, and some unexplained force inside my body, I could do it.

Post the Navratri workshop, the way I practice Yoga at home has also changed. Earlier, I used to be disappointed when I couldn’t balance on one foot or do an asana perfectly. However, now, I focus on how it feels on every part of my body. I trust my body to get into the asana naturally. As a result, my mind is calm and happy after practice. I used to do yoga every day to get rid of my aches, but now, I do it because I love it. Yoga is no longer a mere exercise routine but a way of life that I’ve consciously adopted.

I highly recommend everyone to try Aruna’s workshops at least once. You’ll see how much effort, thought, and care she puts into each session. I guarantee you that it would only be a matter of time before you join Yogadarshini’s regular classes and fall in love with yoga like I did.
